Runs With Wolves Sanctuary

My Turn to Speak

Hello dear friends,

My name is Lomasi, and I live at Runs with Wolves Sanctuary. “Lomasi” means pretty flower. I think that name suits me nicely, don’t you?

Lomasi, a pure grey wolf

I want to thank you all for visiting our site and reading our blog. Even though we live in a small Maine town, there is a lot that goes on around here. I can assure you that we always will have something to share, whether it be news, or a party, or, my special favorite, gossip!

You already had the pleasure of meeting my brother, Anoki, last week. He fancies himself the “spokeswolf,” and you know, that’s really fine with me. Even though I’m more photogenic and would make a much more attractive logo, Anoki simply can’t stop talking. The pack agrees: Giving him a job makes life easier on the rest of us.

But, this time around, I get to talk to you, and that’s a special treat. I might not be as chatty as my brother, but I sure do have my opinions that need to be aired. Like rain. I’m not very fond of rain. It ruins my fur-do and makes me smell awful. Luckily, Runs with Wolves Sanctuary provides me a nice, warm, dry hut where I can slip in and snuggle down to stay dry. It’d be nicer if I could have a pedicure while I’m waiting out the rain, but I suppose I can’t have everything.

Kind of dreary out there right now.

Did you know you’re supposed to use straw instead of hay if you’re lining animals’ pens? It’s true! Straw keeps us warmer than hay. Also, straw doesn’t absorb water like hay does. Straw acts like a repellent. The humans at the sanctuary work very hard all year round to make sure our huts are leak-free and that we have fresh, clean straw for our beds.

One of our special volunteers working on the huts.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who has an aversion to rain. Our humans don’t seem to like it much, either. Get this: They walk around our pens wearing these unflattering plastic wraps that really do nothing for their figures. The suffering they have to endure on our behalf, to feed us and take care of us in the pouring rain! I’m glad I don’t have to wear one of those ugly plastic get-ups!

So, the next time it rains, you know where I’ll be. Warm and dry in my hut, waiting for my food.

Or pedicure.

Whichever comes first.
